Alone

Alone,
Although my solace comforts me
Alone,
Although my soul isn't there
Alone,
When I look deep into you eyes
Alone,
Because your soul isn't there

And now,
This pain, it moves, soothes me
And now
This pain, its too much to bear
And now,
I look into your burdened eyes
And now,
I see your soul isn't there

So now,
Let's move toward the light that bathes us
So now,
Let's forget that life isn't fair
So now,
I look deep into your eyes
So now,
I see that my soul is impaired.

Inspiration:

This poem's premise is an abusive relationship. The type of abuse is irrelevant, as the approach is just a manifestation of the issue.

The one thing that I wanted to stree in this poem is the significance of the other person's eyes. In the first verse, The person cannot see the pain in her eyes, because he only sees himself; that is why he's alone.

As we move to verse two, she has left. He never thought that she could bring him heartache. But now, when he sees her, he sees that her eyes are dead.

Lastly, he is ready to move on; he understands that the relationship is over. And in the last line, he realizes that it was his fault.

PS- This poem was very hard for me to write. There was a lot of negative energy that I had to draw to write this. In fact, it was doubly so, as I put myself in both situations. Sadly, I cannot say that either situation was easier than the other.
